Sneak Peek: Deuce Coupe Collection

sneak-peek-large

A bold movement emerged in the 1950s—a fresh energy that stormed against the stale conservatism of the time. Creativity caught fire and fueled the desire to be different. A culture of ideas began to explore boundaries and test limits, and individuals competed against their peers in ways that opened undiscovered frontiers of freedom, performance and innovation.

These were the days of the Deuce Coupe—the iconic car that was customized, personalized, stripped-down, rebuilt, and fast as a bat out of hell. Legends were born and legends fell on a strip of asphalt just past the outskirts of town.

Oakley’s new Deuce Coupe Collection takes cues from the limit-busting generation, their rebellious ideas and the machines they raced. From the art and detailing of their cars to the blur of speed as the world rushed past the racers, the Deuce Coupe Collection embodies an icon from a generation that kick-started an entire culture while sharing a common passion we have here at Oakley: Innovation. Zero to Sixty, Pedal to the Metal.

2012 PGA Show

2012 PGA Show

IMG_0806

Technology, technology, and technology were arguably the three most popular topics at this year’s PGA Show and Outdoor Demo. And, fortunately for today’s golfer, Oakley has always been obsessing with making things better. With over 40,000 Industry professionals in attendance, we had more than a little bit to talk about after unveiling the Cipher – the world’s lightest golf shoe.

At the Outdoor Demo, we even let you try a pair on to see how they swing. With ‘nanospike’ and ‘factorylite’ technologies featured, many experts were impressed with weightless feel and superior traction. Oakley coverage spanned head to toe as you could also throw on a pair of custom Red Fast Jackets to quickly find the lens option of your choice.

To top things off, the Oakley Rolling O Lab was up and pumping to answer any questions attendees had in regards in High Definition Optics as well as the many technologies found in Oakley Golf Apparel. Not a bad day at the range!

The PGA Outdoor Demo and Show is the largest and most influential golf show in the game. Oakley countered with an all-star combination of sales and marketing representatives proudly showing off this season’s line and telling the Oakley story. Most in attendance this year can attest that Oakley is no longer just a necessity for eye protection on the course – it’s becoming essential for anyone looking for the best performing product in the game.

Canopy Goggle Goes Through Final Round of Field Testing

Canopy Goggle Goes Through Final Round of Field Testing

IMG_1566

In this upside-down winter of 2011/12, Oakley Field Testing Team’s latest mission was to find enough snow to put the new oversized framed/lens goggle, The Canopy, through its final round of Field Testing..

This December, Whistler/Blackcomb was the best place in North America to test the new Canopy. After countless design modifications, field testing and anticipation, Oakley has created the largest and clearest goggle lens thanks to a frame designed specifically to maximize your vertical and peripheral vision.

Whistler’s base was as ready as any in North America, but prior to our Field Testing trip, an unseasonably warm storm shed rain to the top…Although the skiing went from rock hard snow to just rocks, to blown-in drifts to frozen rime, this weather was perfect for goggle testing. Through thick clouds we hiked to find powder only to summit in the cold, December sun. We descended high alpine chutes into dark, misty timber. We navigated through the pre christmas crowds while negotiating hot corn snow covering the icy base. Finally we’d end up in the Village, sweating. Through it all Canopy remained unfogged and unscathed.

Back at the house test data download sessions began. The house went silent as we focused on goggle performance and entered critical measurements of fit, function, and performance into the Oakley Field Testing website. Tech talk often came up again at dinner and, inevitably, the conversations digressed to prayers for the snow gods. Morning’s come quickly when it’s hard and cold on the mountain, but we pressed on through the week of groundhog days until the team had the complete summary of data.

Our week’s work commenced with the final round table breakdown. The overwhelming outcome was extremely positive and with a few small tweaks, the outlook for Canopy is perfect vis in all conditions!

GreenEDGE: Oakley Cyclist Simon Gerrans Dominates Tour Down Under for Team’s Innaugural Victory

GreenEDGE: Oakley Cyclist Simon Gerrans Dominates Tour Down Under for Team’s Innaugural Victory

Simon Gerrans

Team GreenEDGE is officially on the map.

Oakley Cyclist Simon Gerrans powered the Australian cycling team to its most prominent victory by claiming the 2012 Santos Tour Down Under in his phenomenal debut.

“It’s just fantastic,” Simon said, rocking his Oakley performance eyewear. “I really can’t thank my teammates at GreenEdge enough. It’s such a fantastic victory and we couldn’t ask for a more perfect way to start the season.”

The final stage was raced over 20 laps of a street circuit at Elder Park, Adelaide CBD. The 90 kilometre finale set off with the air temperature at a whopping 37 degrees. And the thermometers on the riders bikes were reading 52.

Although the 31 year old went into the stage tied on time with Spaniard Alejandro Valverde (Movistar), he actually started as race leader due to an overall lower total. There were a handful that were hoping to challenge Simon during the final stage, but GreenEDGE were up to the challenge and vigilant throughout, making sure every move was covered.

“I had Robbie McEwen looking after me (and) that was pretty special since it was his last race in Australia,” he said of his team mate McEwen, who holds the record for the most stage wins in the history of the Santos Tour Down Under, 12.

“We had a tough task today to control Alejandro Valverde who is a classics rider. The last lap was very fast. It’s an even sweeter victory than my first one here in 2006. It gives me the opportunity to thank for the first time the Ryan family (GreenEDGE team owners Gerry and Andrew) and Shayne Bannan (GreenEDGE General Manager) for putting this team together. It couldn’t be a better start for us.”

The victory came on the heels of a huge success at the national road championship in Ballarat.

“I made it a target to win the national championship and the Tour Down Under. I’ve ticked those boxes, so it is a real dream start.”
