Oakley athletes, Shaun White and Rory McIlroy teamed up to film a 50th Anniversary public service announcement for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Although the two come from worlds apart, both men make it a priority to support organizations like St. Jude, which support causes close to their hearts.
“If I’m going to do anything like that, I want it to be with kids,” said Rory who also actively supports UNICEF. “I feel like I can relate to them a little bit better than anything else.»
Shaun has a longstanding relationship with St. Jude, and has also worked closely with St. Jude Target House, which has given him the opportunity over the years to hang out with many St. Jude children. Yesterday was no exception.
Co-starring with the two sports icons was a star-struck young boy named Dawson. At just 7-years old, he stole the show with his bright and cheery disposition. Dawson, in spite of the fact that he’s in the midst of a grueling three-year chemotherapy regimen, exuded incredible positivity and strength.
“He was unbelievable,” Rory said of his inspiring co-star. “To see someone go through what he’s going through and to have all this positivity coming out of him, it just makes you realize how lucky and how fortunate we are.”
Dawson was over the moon at the opportunity to meet Shaun and Rory who signed autographs, posed for pictures and spent some quality time with him. Dawson, will undoubtedly tell the story of his television debut alongside two of the world’s top athletes for years to come.
The PSA will air during the FedEx St. Jude Classic from June 7-10 on CBS and The Golf Channel. Tune in to see what happens when Oakley athletes join forces for the greater good.

I’ve heard it said that it’s all about maximizing performance. Whether you’re skiing, surfing, cycling or golfing – each of us inherently wants to improve. Improve not only our results, but our enjoyment of the things we love.
This desire is reflected in the evolution of Oakley’s technical outerwear. On a recent field-testing trip to Chamonix, France; Oakley teamed with Polartec to explore some of the biggest, most accessible mountains on the planet. The aim was to collect data from real-world conditions that will help athletes and enthusiasts get the most out of their experience in the mountains.
So I lead a crew of testers through ski tours on both sides of the Chamonix valley. I watched Oakely’s Technical Outerwear brand manager, Urs Egli, deftly ice axe/ski his way down a frozen, icy couloir. Oakley’s field testing guru Dave Steiner measured temperature readings on the skin after a sweaty, 5-hour climb up Mt Buet. We compared the breathability of various fabrics from different manufacturers with Polartec Marketing manager Allon Cohne.
All of this field testing goes into fine-tuning products like the new Oakley BioZone softshell jacket. Through the integration of different Polartec fabrics, Oakley’s new softshell will allow more breathability in the core of the jacket, while maintaining wind and waterproofness throughout. We learned from our days in Chamonix that the jacket needs only a few tweaks here and there. But we all agreed that if we get the core to breathe better, we can climb up, ski down, and cruise to après-ski more efficiently.
Hope to ski you all later,
ms

Back from Mexico after a super fun week for the 3rd annual Punta Sayulita Longboard & SUP classic! It was by far one of the best events I have been to and I am looking forward to going back next year. The event included everything from SUP & longboard surfing to a technical elite SUP race, a 10k distance race & a 2.2k race.
I got 1st in the long distance race, 2nd in the elite race and 4th in the Women’s SUP surfing event. It was the perfect opportunity to test out some of my new Oakley activewear & sunglasses from the Spring 2012 Perform Beautifully Collection, which I LOVE! I am so excited to be an ambassador for the Perform Beautifully Collection and I was blown away by the quality of the clothes, how great they fit and function and especially, how cute they look. I’m really digging the colors of the line, they’re so vibrant and fun!
My favorite piece was the Extend Top, it was perfect for paddling and surfing, dried quickly when wet and still looked cute to wear to lunch or just hang out at the beach. I wore the Continuity Bra to race in and it did it’s job, staying on, even in all the crazy surf! I also really liked the Swirl shorts, Taylor wrap & of course the glasses! I tested out the new Underspin in polarized, the Daisy Chain and I raced in the Radar Straight Stem. Looking forward to getting back to Kona and putting the rest of training line to use!
